The Carmel of Our Lady of the Mountains sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains overlooking the city of Reno. With an enormous sky above broad deserts fading into the horizon, it shelters contemplative life within and opens up to our world beyond.
Our life is simple: prayer and manual labor, solitude and community. The rhythm of prayer alone and in common, care for one another, compassionate attention to those in need, and sharing the fruits of our life with the broader community of the People of God fill our days.
As women of the Church in the second millennium, we continue to embrace renewal in all areas of our life, examining our relationships within the Church and wider world community in the light of Gospel values and Carmelite tradition. A diverse community of seventeen sisters, we are committed to Catholic Carmelite contemplative life and the overflow of it to all around us.
